Mostly Vishu falls on 14th April. It is the significant celebration of Kerala people. Vishu is assumed to watch good things for the good fate. The morning hours of Vishu are very vital. According to some views, the people of Kerala view Vishu, the 'Vishukkani', is very crucial to the success of the whole year. 'Vishukkani' become throughout the year, a custom collection of edible articles like raw rice, fresh linen, golden cucumber, betel leaves, arecanut, metal mirror, the yellow flowers 'konna' (cassia fistula), and a sacred book and cash, in a bell metal vessel called 'uruli'. Nilavilakku, a lighted bell metal lamp is also kept alongside.

In the celebration of Vishu, the women of Kerala hold a big saucer made of bell-metal (uruli), place in it a grantha (palm-leaf manuscript), a gold ornament, a fresh cloth, some flowers from the Konna Tree (Cassia fistula), some cash in a silver cup, a crack coconut, a cucumber, some mangoes and a jack-fruit. On either side of the saucer, there is the keeping of two burning lamps with a chair facing it. Family members are taken to that place blindfolded and then their blindfolds are detached and they watch the Vishu Kani. As in other Indian festivals, a great dinner at house is the main attraction of celebrating Vishu in Kerala.
